Somali Marriage vs Salams

Salams is a large Muslim marriage and friendship app owned by Match Group, the company behind Tinder and Hinge — Match Group names it as one of its own brands in its investor releases. Somali Marriage is small, independent, and built only for the Somali diaspora, where sisters never pay for anything. Both are halal-intentioned; the real differences are ownership, scale, and whether the platform is Somali-specific.

What Salams publishes about itself

Every line below comes from Salams’s own material or a public register, checked on 2026-08-24. We make no claims about Salams that Salams has not made about itself.

  • Match Group names Salams as one of its own brands in its 4 February 2025 results release, and the Salams marketing site carries the footer “Copyright © 2026 Match Group Americas, LLC”.

  • Salams launched under the name Minder in 2015.

  • Salams’ own site displays "3.8 Million+ Users", "100,000 Marriages" and "100 Countries". Its App Store listing instead says "over 6 million Muslims worldwide", so we quote rather than assert.

  • Salams states on its own site that "our customer support team manually verifies each user and all users agree to keep things halal on the app."

  • Salams runs two modes on one account: Salams Love for finding a life partner, and Salams Connect for friendship and networking.

  • Salams sells three subscription tiers — Diamond, Gold and Premium — each available for 1 week, 1 month, 3, 6 or 12 months. Prices are not published on its own site; the US App Store lists in-app purchases from $4.99 to $34.99.

Use Salams if…

Choose Salams if you want a much larger pool, if you are open to marrying outside the Somali community, or if you also want the friendship and networking side. It is a far bigger platform with a far bigger company behind it.

Use Somali Marriage if…

Choose Somali Marriage if you want a Somali-specific platform, if it matters to you that the people running it are not a dating conglomerate, if you want joining and browsing to stay free for everyone, or if you are a brother who would rather pay once than subscribe.

Free to join. Brothers: a lifetime pass as one payment, or a cancel-anytime monthly.
